Open the map and scan for cave icons with the pickaxe overlay. These are dense copper veins; clear all interior nodes for a single trip's worth.

The first material tier in Windrose, sourced from Coastal Jungle. Copper is the key that unlocks Boss 1 (Richards) and opens the road to Foothills.

Pick up surface copper on rocky outcrops
Yellow-orange chunks on jungle outcrops give starter copper without needing a tool upgrade.

Smelt at a Furnace near your base
Place a Furnace within bonfire range. Smelt copper ore into ingots before crafting any copper tools or weapons.

Upgrade tools before weapons
Copper Pickaxe and Copper Axe gather much faster than starter tools. Returns more resources per cave run.
